I was talking to a friend recently who said Truth means facts.
And I said … no it doesn’t. And they said yes it does, it’s the same word … truth is the same as facts. It’s the same word. And I said … no … it’s not the same word, you can tell because … it’s a different word. Spelled differently, with different letters.
I was in a pub recently and I overheard a large chap saying to his smaller friend, “Knowledge is power!”. And I pondered that one for a moment or two.
I have a distant relation who I was talking to recently and they said (while talking about investment), “Cash is King”.
Anyway, truth isn’t fact. Knowledge isn’t power. Cash isn’t King. Truth is personal, facts are impersonal – if truth is facts then there is no nuance, no vulnerability, no paradox, no mystery – possibly the saddest way to go through existence, but ok. Facts don’t set us free, truth sets us free. For examples of this, it only takes a few friendships with people who have pursued facts their entire lives to know … not much freedom there. Trivia, yes. Freedom, no. Truth hurts a little bit. It humbles, it breaks down power and ego rather well – and ultimately it sets us free. Facts can’t do that in the same, personal, way no siree. Facts are much easier to deal with, which probably explains why so many people pursue that path – it’s much easier.
Knowledge isn’t power – unless your ‘tactic’ in life is to control people through manipulation, then you can use knowledge / blackmail against people – a serious problem amongst a certain group of English Etonians who shall remain nameless. Again, an extremely sad way to go through existence, and the constant string of broken marriages and corruption, fragmentation and misery are testament to some sort of issue there.
Cash isn’t king. Sure cash is helpful when it comes to investments or whatever, but the prob with the saying is people extend it to their lives by mistake. Cash might be king of your life, but as Princess Leia pointed out, if money’s all you want, then money’s all you’ll get. Try it.
All jolly good, perhaps I’m just at that stage of life of questioning all the bollocks that people have said to me over the years, and reforming my thinking around it, based not on the pedestal of the person who spoke, but on my own experiences thus far! Heheh, all rather splendid, this life thing huh? HUH!?!!?! Far more important that we challenge our own beliefs than we bumble through life and accidentally skip it completely.
Here are some early development renders, from when I was writing Lithium, and deciding what the characters could look like, where they could hang out 🙂
^ Just figuring out backgrounds and wall colours – fun fact this whole scene was built out of a free Skyscraper garden 3d scene that was on renderosity 🙂
^ a steph/charlie mashup …
^ figuring out clothing is half the fun when playing with your barbie dolls 🙂
^ Jack was going to have a dream about control and facelessness, but the subtle point I was making wouldn’t have been understood by the reader, and it would likely have caused more harm than good in the comic series, so the confusing booby doll had to go! I made the point via someone else’s internal struggle around consumption in 0bh instead.
^ Charlie originally had giant boobs, but I changed my mind on that one, because it detracted from her believability / girl-next-door vibe. Let Steph make the consumer points, I thought.
