It’s beginning to look a lot like …

… boobies!

No wait, that’s not it. Reminds me of … probably my favourite moment from that zombie comic, was our guy waking up after the dream and exclaiming ‘Vaginas’ haha! Not sure why that particular bit tickled me, but … anyway, ahem.

So yes, Christmas is approaching once more. Our favourite absurd Roman Empire across the pond is apparently EPSTEIN simmering along in its RELEASE THE PISS TAPES delicious pre-Visigoths mire, as all empires do, and the rest of the planet tries to ignore it [as always] and get along with their own lives. No, no, America will be fine, ’tis just the tremors of adolescence working their way out – we all did it.

Britain certainly did it; and judging by how we’re still quietly supporting Netanyahu with weapons, we’re not exactly 100% free from the nasty little habits of empire ourselves just yet. Just look at the unrestricted access Reform still has to BBC interview slots – ridiculous racist bullshit that has nothing to do with democracy nor balanced arguments.

I mean, we don’t quite have the anonymous Secret Police up to no good, so we’re not quite in Orwellian territory just yet. Ahem. But yes, back to America; historians the globe over, have been rolling their eyes for decades enough, it really is time it all came to a head. Hopefully with a huge oil bath, fifty-five alligators, and every billionaire stripped naked and with only a peeled banana to use as a weapon (just a suggestion).

I was thinking of all this while watching Gremlins 2 today, and sure enough, there’s enough self awareness in that (dated 1990) mayhem of a film which is about the concrete-rise of capitalist bellendery. Or Robocop – remember that 80s warning against the nightmarish egos of those obsessed with accruing wealth and power? Ahhh, good times, good times. When it was all still funny.

Anyway, as the rest of us slip gently towards eggnog and visions of sugarplums and war with Russia, and we are faced with the harsh darknesses of the world, and what they do to our own selves, how we may have voted in the past, where we believe our identities lie, and how we might change our minds about what the world should be …

I’ve been ruminating on what my Jewish friend said to me this Tuesday evening, about their feelings on Israel; (this isn’t word for word, but it is the quote as close as I can remember it); “For a long time I had this sort of rage in me, this righteous anger [at the Holocaust] and that was part of my identity, but it was locking me into this stupid idea that anyone who had a problem with what Israel have been doing, was anti-semitic. But now we’re faced with this, what’s been happening in Gaza. I’ve been challenged to move on from that old identity of mine, the one locked in with what happened to my grandfather. I’ve been thinking, ‘Never again’ doesn’t actually mean anything – ‘never’ and ‘again’ are both adverbs, there’s no action there, no specifics. And what they’ve been doing in Gaza … they have become the Nazis. Its already happened, justified by this old hate. It is happening again.”

What a statement.

So … yeah, there’s a lot going on in the world. And a lot of badness. And sadness.

I’d put in the same camp, anyone justifying their hatred of ‘the other’ and using anonymised private armies, so that sadly means Putin, Trump and Netanyahu are on my naughty list at the moment. Three comfortably resilient egos. I likely won’t be sending them Christmas cards.

And on my Nice list, is Tira Yugen. Some good news from that direction, at least! I’ll also be pumping out work here and there, got some silly ideas in the pipeline – just need to figure out how/when I’m going to release them, is all heheh.

And the world keeps turning. And good things keep happening, despite the darkness. And we learn, step by awkward step, the humble path towards freedom.

Also boobies.
