Together

Feels good to be together, doesn’t it? Snuggled up in bed, early-morning light giving that blue glow through the sheets. Casual glass of wine from the night before, offered giggling to a mouth already half-full of croissant. Together is good.

Heck, I remember when I could travel all around Europe without the slightest hint of any required paperwork to do so … you know, before buggering wanky Brexit wankered everything up, for literally zero reason. Tried to turn ‘together’ into apart.

And after a few years’ investigation, it appears certain people (who shall remain nameless but generally look like trouts) were taking money in order to talk-up the ‘benefits’ of Brexit, money from none other than the actual Russians?

As if real life was taking its cues from a 1970s episode of The Pink Panther … as if the only real methodology available to the individuals behind all the truly crap decisions in the world were; (1) Divide and Conquer, and (2) no, just keep dividing. Divide, divide, divide. Apart, apart, apart. ‘Conquer’ by default. Manipulate via fear.

When we all know, that the best things in life are about With. Are about being Together.

And so we skip forward to the present day, past the murky chapter of Brexit, the wanky discussion of THEM, of pseudo-walls between ‘us’, and whoever it is we should be blaming next. Who is it? The Muslims? Didn’t they give us … you know … counting? Didn’t the Muslims give us civilisation in a world still limited to looms? Ah no, perhaps we should be blaming the Mexicans … who … were native via Incan civilisation long before my milky skin ‘blessed’ those particular shores.

Perhaps we should be blaming the … **checks notes** … ‘illegals’? What, the fcking immigrants?! The most vulnerable people on the planet?! Those guys!! The undocumented ones; they’re not holidaying, they’re the ones with zero choice, right? It is only the law that makes things ‘illegal’, and certainly the law can make things better for people as well, otherwise what’s the point in any law? If you think your life is shit because of immigrants, you know nothing about the history of the ground your fat arse is beached upon.

But still we skip forward to the present day when … let’s check … according to a lot of media at the moment, Europe and America appear to be getting gently levered apart? SERIOUSLY? Who is buying this stuff? And more importantly, who is paying? Because if it’s the same people who paid for Brexit, I suspect there is a rather large bill waiting on account.

You cannot divide Europe and America. We fought together against total evil for a reason. You cannot divide Britain and Europe. We fought together against total evil for a reason. You cannot divide pain au chocolate and sex. Because we are, each of us, better together. Under duvets and sheets. Giggling and salty and tender and ticklish. Having some quality time together, to enjoy the splashes and giggles of a long-hewn relationship that is based on something deeper than mere consumerism.

(just an example) (ahem)

America; we love you. We do not blame you for having an obvious despot at the helm, we’ve all had our absolute Shitgibbon moments. (‘they’ve voted for their Franco‘ is becoming a little more real now, unfortunately, but so what? Hey, remember George III?! Don’t even get me started on the Henrys or any of the Saxe-Coburg dynasties! Classic.)

Europe; we love you. We don’t blame you for making some drastic post-war choices and trying to stop it happening again. You have delightful rail systems and miserable French farmers and we love you for it all.

And like making peace with the slightly drunk uncle every Christmas Eve, we take a little moment and accept their shortcomings (which are many) in order to enable the family to function (which is tricky), simply because … we are together. And together is good.

Happy Christmas.

(hey, what can I say? Christmas is a good topic. As someone silly once said, we all fall down, and we are all invited to look up.)

(Jilly and Ern having fun with Anna Smit. Remember I actually made Anna before she became Anna Smit? Okay, well … I did, in late 2020. I’m not taking credit for anything Magnificent, I’m just saying. Best things happen when we give things away. That’s all I’m saying. Calm down a bit.)
