STFW … catalogued!

Holy smokes, I was just searching for an image from OHB as I couldn’t be bothered to find my comics hard drive, and I’ve stumbled upon someone putting together a pretty comprehensive-looking guide to the STFW comics universe! Great work to whoever is doing this (‘R0’? ‘Oblomov’? Who knows who the author is, comment below if it’s you), I’ll have a read through some of this in a sec, looks really interesting:

  • Visit https://labrador.oblomov.eu/stfw/
  • Woweeee … I’ve had a bit of a dig round there – quite a piece of work putting that together! Well done, this is pretty useful, even as one of the authors! Reminds me of an early Wookieepedia.

In other news, someone told me about their Discord for all things STFW translation – if you’re into it, Marsu70 says, “I don’t have a website… I just have a Discord where I share all my translations”, so here it is:

  • Visit discord.gg/Z6gGBUDx9H
  • I haven’t checked it (I don’t use Discord), but if you’re into it and want translated comics, have a look.

Also, there’s this dude who’s just putting my art on Deviantart for some reason haha!

It’s fine, carry on I say, it’s not like they’re ripping me off or selling anything, just sharing bits of comics they obviously liked. It’s quite a cute thing to do I guess heheh. Now, must find that OHB screengrab I was after … keep getting distracted for some reason …

(dear reader, the reason was boobies).

  1. The fact that it lists whether your comic series has passed the “Bechdel–Wallace test” just thrills me and probably this person deserves an honourary mention in a future comic.

    1. Hi I’m the author of that page. Thanks for the kind words. Also I just noticed I missed the Bechdel–Wallace test is missing from a couple of entries. I have to find some time to update the page.

        1. You’re welcome! I’ve actually been thinking of ways to make it possible for others to contribute and make it more of a “fandom” thing than “lone fan”, but as you may easily guess the change from “static page I put up somewhere” to “wiki” is a BIG change on the technical side. But maybe I’ll make the “source” accessible somewhere through version control so that others can “fork” the page and change it to their own preference.

        1. Well, that’s odd. The page isn’t under password protection. It’s hosted on my home server, so it might go down if my home connection goes down or if I have to reboot the server during maintenance. I’ll have to check the logs, but maybe you happened to access it during a reboot, when the server was back up but not fully configured.

      1. Oblomov! It’s you, of course it’s you I hadn’t put 2 and 2 together. Thank you dude what a great piece of work. And yes I love the addition of the Bechdel test haha! It’s kind of you to do it by series rather than individual comics, I’m sure a lot of my comics will fail the test – though it’s normally due to lack of character numbers to make it possible, I’m sure there’s plenty of opportunity to pass the test that I’ve missed.
I’d also fail the test if the genders were reversed – ie are there two guys talking together about anything other than women? That’s very rare too, and something to think about for any comic author hehh! Keep up the good work 🙂

        1. You’re welcome, but really the one doing most of the work here is you, I’m just taking notes from the sidelines 8-D

And yes, the character count can be a problem for the Bechdel test, it really shows up in the one-shot for obvious reasons, but as you mention those would most likely fail the reverse test too.

Now here’s the tricky question: do conversation with God count? 8-D

  2. That animation closely resembles part of my workout yesterday. Only without the boobies, and with 100 kg on a bar across my hips, doing weighted hip thrust lifts.

Is there a version of that animation with Bob?

  3. Incredible piece of work in cataloguing and tying all of the STFW Universe together.

Perhaps my old memory is failing me more than I realize, but I think I remember SAJ adknowledging somewhere (finally) that Tira Yugen and she may be very closely related. So close, in fact, that it may be impossible to consider them as anything other than the same person.

    1. Thanks, I’ve always been a fan of the Universe, and I think of this as my small way to “give back” to it.

And yup, that post is the one linked under the discreet “or maybe not” at the end of the Tira Yugen paragraph 😉
