About that assassination

People keep whining at me to comment, so I’ll get it over with.

I don’t know the guy Kirk, so why would I place judgement on the assassination, either way? Is it necessary to judge an assassination as politically ‘right’ or ‘wrong’? Wtf is going on? Listen, I’m sorry to have to say this, but it’s sad when someone resorts to killing. Always.

When Luigi did it: sad.

When that guy in Vegas shoots up the rock concert: sad.

When some angry racist drives into a crowd of protesters who’re asking for very basic levels of justice: sad.

… you get the picture.

There’s no justification for killing. None. We always want to justify our hatred; that’s what people always misread into The Punisher trope. “THEIR hatred is wrong, but MY hatred is justified” … shrieks the adolescent. Our side is less violent than their side. Outside of actual war, is life really about sides?

The question is not can we justify our hatred, the question is can we recognise it before it’s too late, and stupid words become stupid actions.

Me personally; can I recognise my own hatred? Because that’s what the path of love has to look like. I want love in my life, sexy love, with boobies! And willies! And bottoms! And therefore I have to seek-out and work on any hate inside myself. Hate of the other. Even hate of those who hurt me. If I don’t seek out and deal with that crap, I will take a … different path. A darker, wider path, where my relationships break down and my thoughtlife becomes deeply chaotic.

So I’d always respect anyone who uses their podium to talk about forgiveness, rather than vengeance. Who talks about unity rather than blame.

And on balance I’d say it is as stupid to applaud a killing, as it is to lionize some guy who made a living out of [as far as I can tell] … verbally assaulting college kids. He wasn’t a saint, but then nor was he a justifiable target. Let’s move on.

The media circus is never really about that anyway, it’s just filling the airwaves to prevent people from noticing they’ve got an obvious dictator in charge, and they can suddenly no longer vote for anything meaningful. That’s exactly how Putin (‘the genius’) did it; use your power exclusively to divide everyone, and remove your opponents from the media, one by one. Pretend it’s all about tax. Or immigration. Or **checks notes** improving … employment …? Solving wars between Cambodia and … Armenia?!

Putin’s tactic is like the shit low-brow way to play chess anyway; erosion. Until the only opposition left are pawns, and you can just rule over the tattered remains of the chessboard from the security of your small-dicked fiefdom, wondering why the national birthrate is going down at such an alarming rate and the only thing your country produces is crap it can dig out of the ground. A fantastic societal own-goal, and it always begins with the flawed assumption that there are two sides who must compete.

So in conclusion; fascist regimes masquerading as a good idea, can do one.

Now, enough about that bollocks, I’ll write about comic updates next as that’s far more interesting 🙂

Yay!

[Footnote: resist fascism, always. If you think that’s a controversial thing to say, then perhaps you have been radicalized; there’s an easy test ~ do you think anonymous police forces are a good idea?]

  1. I honestly prefer it when people talk about comics here more than about any political situations in the world. Comics can be influenced, but some other things, not so much.

    1. Tough titties. Comics = stories about our humanity = rooted in who we are and what’s going on in the world.

  2. Honestly… I just want to put a 🔫 to my head and stop hearing the voices… there soo much people don’t know of the world and really don’t look at it through others eyes… I’ve shut up here in the comments because I feel attacked when I just mention something… so I’ll say it again… I’m really done with life… I don’t care what you think of me … I’m a spec of dust of humanity In the whole timeline of humans and earth. I’m not worth you seeing me here anymore. Oh and if someone wants to pull the trigger for me… your welcome to… nobody really gives a shit 💩

    1. I’m sorry you feel attacked on this blog. People feel strongly about politics because it so strongly affects the lives of those they love, so it can be a hot topic. But it’s not personal, it’s about how ideas affect society.

Your comments have always been honest and [mostly] kind, so what I think of you is you’re a decent person and are always welcome here. If discussions around the foolishness of what’s going on in your country are putting you in a legitimately dark place, then it’s worth taking a proper break to get perspective – break from social media, break from the news, break from blogs etc.

I’d also encourage anyone to seek help ~ in the UK that normally starts with talking to your doctor, but then we all have free healthcare ~ I’m not sure what the equivalent advice would be for someone in the US. What are your options for someone to approach?

  3. I found the Axios synopsis of Trump and his presidency enlightening: https://www.axios.com/newsletters/axios-am-585dd3f0-7ac7-4a29-be2d-2455acc0f48f.html

It provides a good context for understating how the CK assassination has been “handled”, and why.

One of my takeaways from CK’s stadium-sized memorial service is how none of his family members spoke (other than his wife), such as his parents and siblings. Excluding them says just as much about the situation as do the content of the speaker roster and their words.

  4. Your observations are, as always, spot on. Those who think they immune or unaffected by the politics of the present day will find out, too late, I fear, that they are not.
