Oh, this isn’t a new comic dropping, btw. Don’t get too excited. I’ve been tweaking the final Lithium comic script and stuff, and pretty proud of where this takes us, this one. It’s also been interesting to open old scene files and update the settings – see where the rendering has progressed in the last few years.
Original:
– Now here’s the same scene, just with the developed skin shaders and lighting dropped in – looks totally different:
– I didn’t bother matching the expressions (which kinda made the original image work well), but you get the point – the 3D software has improved pretty noticeably, particularly in terms of the skin ‘depth’. It’s a bit over the top with this example, but you can see how the light is interacting with the characters totally differently.
I think I’ll give away my scenes and stuff soon – when Lithium’s wrapped up I’ll bundle some 3D scenes and characters together and put them on this blog. I mean I’m sure I’m not supposed to for copyright reasons, but a lot of the stuff I use is so completely ancient (V4 was out in 2006); I don’t think I’ll be affecting anyone’s profit margins by just sharing all my work heheh.
Anyway in terms of the news on Lithium generally – it’s a bit like comic #10 this one, in that there’s a lot of quite technical scenes to create so it will take a little longer. It’s nothing like #10 in terms of the action – there’s no action in this one really, but it will take some time to produce because (1) it’s still kind of ambitious, and (2) I want to do justice to the series by ending on a quality piece, rather than let it fizzle out, so I’m into doing it properly heheh.
– My leg is poking through my trousers! Arghhh!!!
– I’ll just take off these invisible knickers
– Charlie, your fingers are going through the surface of the sofa.
– Nobody’s looking at my fingers, Jack.
– Ah.
Got to … stop … re-rendering random … old … scenessss … hrrrngghhhhh …
There is no way not to be gutted that Lithium is coming to an end. It’s been epic and the best comic ever.
